United Nations Development Programme Romania

UNDP Romania - Focus Areas

Development in Romania today is dominated by the “road map” for EU accession. Significant challenges to achieving EU membership remain, and human development indicators in a number of key areas remain worrisome (see EC progress report and the UN Common Country Assessment, CCA November 2003). Romania's first MDG report outlines country-specific goals and targets in the areas of poverty reduction, employment, combating HIV/AIDS and other diseases, environmental sustainability, and information technology.

UNDP's proposed Country Programme (CP) 2005-2009, anchored around Romania's MDGs, responds to key challenges to reform and EU accession. Based on the lessons learned in the past and and underpinned by extensive knowledge, greater resources, and in the shape of the Millennium Development Goals, UNDP Romania has devoted itself to developing projects in the following areas of practice, and gender is mainstreamed in each one of them.
